Celebrating Harlow Cricket Club’s Legendary Trio

Harlow Cricket Club is basking in the glow of remarkable milestones this summer, as three of its cherished members collectively mark 190 years of cricketing passion and dedication. Following the club’s grand 250th anniversary celebrations last year, this season brings a new set of achievements to honour.

First up is the venerable Cliff Clark, who celebrates his 80th birthday this year. Cliff’s journey with Harlow began in 1978 when he moved to the old town, just a stone’s throw from the club’s boundary wall. Despite starting his cricketing career at the age of 33, Cliff quickly became a linchpin of the 1st XI bowling attack. His dedication extended beyond playing, as he served as the club’s groundsman for over three decades, earning accolades for his exceptional work.

Next, we have Alan Howick, the club’s esteemed President, who marks 60 years of membership. Alan’s cricketing journey began in 1965 with the colts, and although his career in estate agency briefly paused his active play, he remained deeply involved in the club’s administration. From Secretary to Chairman, and now President, Alan’s leadership has been invaluable.

Completing this trio is Simon “Baulks” Baulcomb, celebrating his 50th summer with the club. Known for scoring a century in every decade of his cricketing life, Simon’s contributions extend beyond the pitch. As the first known county player from Harlow, he has represented Essex and toured internationally, bringing global recognition to the club. His roles have included Secretary, Chairman, and 1st XI Captain, and his enthusiasm continues to inspire.

These milestones are a testament to the enduring spirit and camaraderie at Harlow Cricket Club. As we celebrate these achievements, we invite everyone to join us in honouring Cliff, Alan, and Simon for their remarkable contributions to our beloved club. Here’s to many more years of cricketing excellence at Harlow!
