Enfield’s badminton team has made a smashing success at the Better Club Games, often dubbed the “Olympics for older people.” This spirited event saw Team Enfield soar to sixth place overall out of 22 competing local areas, with the badminton squad clinching first place in their category.
Organised by GLL, Enfield’s leisure centres contractor, the Better Club Games is a celebration of athleticism and community spirit. This year, a record-breaking 1,000 participants gathered at the iconic Copper Box Arena in East London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The event, now in its 19th year, coincides with the International Day of the Older Person, promoting physical activity, mental wellbeing, and social connection among older adults.
Team Enfield’s athletes shone across nine sports, including swimming, walking football, netball, pickleball, and short tennis. Yet, it was the badminton team that truly stole the show, demonstrating skill, teamwork, and determination. Their triumph is a testament to the vibrant community spirit and the excellent facilities provided by Enfield’s leisure centres.
